Legacy/BTR-24
First Time Set Up:
1- Make sure you have received all items. Packing list should be enclosed.
2- Inspect all items for damage.
3- Charge base station and all beltpacks according to battery care sheet (2 days needed first time).
4- Turn on base station and attach antenna cable marked receive to receive jack on base station and the cable marked transmit to
the transmit jack on the base station. Review different antenna mounting options.
* Base station to gooseneck to antenna.
* Base station to gooseneck to metal L bracket to antenna.
* Clamp to gooseneck to antenna direct or L bracket
5- Plug in headsets to beltpacks. Review different headset adjustments.
*Boom-swivel
* Head size adjustment screw for smaller or larger heads
* Head size adjustment slide for traditional adjustment.
6- Turn on beltpacks one at a time till 2 green lights appear and “wireless” voice is heard. Test all beltpacks.
7- Review owners manual regarding all parts, controls and connections.
8- Review how to change frequencies by re-clear scan or manually. Learn how to lock or unlock frequencies so nobody can accidentally switch frequency during a game.
9- Review beltpack operation. Generally only the head coach switches or activates both lines together. Remember, you do not have to hold the button down to talk, just tap and release. If you want to mute yourself just tap the talk button *Tap green button (O) for offense.
*Tap red button (X) for defense.
*Tap green and red together for both offense and defense.
*Tap talk button to mute (flashing green means muted). Tap again to un-mute.
*Volume button should be pointed towards telex (straight up) to start and adjust accordingly.
* Adjust mic gain for loud or soft coaches. Refer to owner’s manual and then mark
. beltpack with coaches name if you adjust mic gain from factory default # 4.
* Beltpack should be on hip vertically and outside of coat. Buy XOB belt for use with a coat.
Game Day Set Up:
1- Leave the beltpacks for the field, headsets for the field and nylon belts on the field prior to going up to the booth.
2- Once in the coach’s booth turns on base station (plug into wall outlet if available).
3- Attach antenna to base station. Attach both, RX and TX cables from antenna to base station (receive cable to receive jack and transmit cable to transmit jack). Make sure antenna has clear line of site with beltpacks on the field. Use clamp to extend antenna out the window if need be (aluminum shed or polarized windows can cause interference)
4- Attach Headsets to all Beltpacks.
5- Turn on beltpacks one at a time till 2 green lights appear or “wireless” voice is heard. Test all beltpacks.
Walk through test:
Walk through test is very important. This test will discover potential frequency problems. You also will find the 2 best frequencies to use during the game by doing this test. Three people are best for this job. Two on the field and 1 in the booth. Once you do this at your home stadium you should not have to do it again till the next year.
1- Turn on base station and let “clear scan” find a open channel. (1, 6, 11 are best)
2- Turn on 1 beltpack in booth. Wait for “wireless” voice.
3- Turn on 1 beltpack on field. Wait for “wireless” voice. TEST
4-Turn on remaining beltpacks on field one at a time waiting untill you hear a femal voice say “wireless” before turning on the next beltpack.
5- Turn on remaining beltpacks in booth one at a time and you hear “wireless” voice.
6- Walk test each unit from one end of the coaches box to the other. Listen carefully on both offense and defense for “drop outs”. Should you have an unacceptable amount of drop outs or if audio sounds poor you will want to try a new frequency (remember 1,6,11 work best.)
7- Write down channel # as primary channel.
8- Turn off all beltpacks and base station.
9- Turn on base station, wait for clear scan.
10- Manually move channel from primary # to a new channel. If you used 1 first try 6 or 11
next.
11- Repeat steps 2 thru 6
12- Write down back up #
You now have 2 clear channels to use (save for home stadium). Start the game on primary and stay on it unless wireless problems occur. If drop outs begin to happen during the game you will want to re-boot. Refer to re-boot section below.
Trouble shooting:
Just like your cell phone, all wireless headsets may have drop outs. When traveling to other locations, different scenarios may exist that affect your coaching communications. Typically there are 3 sources of error.
1-User-
A. Line of site- All beltpacks should be in line of sight with antenna in coach’s booth. Place beltpack on your hip vertically with a belt if wearing a coat. Never bury beltpack under your clothing. Adjust antenna in booth if need be for clear line of site with beltpacks. Use clamp if needed to adjust antenna outside of window or for better angle.
B. Is the Legacy System fully charged? Beltpacks and Base station?
C. Is antenna connected properly?
D. Refer to Telex Manual for additional user Error.
2- RF Enviorment
A. Reboot – Rebooting is your friend!!! If the problem is related to a individual beltpack shut that beltpack down for a few seconds and then turn back on. If problem is related to all the coaches then turn off all beltpacks and base station. Wait a few seconds and then turn on base station and wait till it clear scans and then turn on each beltpack, one at a time till they sync up. Refer to re-boot section below.
B. Change Frequencies- Clear scan base station for new frequencies. If the same frequencies come back, manually change to a new frequency. Frequency channels 1, 6, 11 work best as there is no overlapping of frequencies. Refer to reboot section below.
C. Other teams using Legacy or 2.4ghz systems. Make sure you are on different frequencies.
D. Other items to be aware of – Cell towers nearby, Microwave in coach’s box, Wireless scoreboards over 900mhz,Wireless Router in coaching box, Batteries not charged
3-General Enviorment
A. Polarized windows- Polarized windows in the coach’s box or if coaches box is made from all aluminum they may cause drop outs. Open window and use detachable antenna clamp to place antenna out the window and then shut window most of the way.
B. Rain- If storms last all game protect beltpacks with quart size Ziploc baggies. Cut out slit for belt clip and wrap baggie around beltpack.
Re-boot:
If rebooting or changing frequencies during a game you may leave base station and beltpacks on while clear scan or manually changing frequencies, but it is better to turn everything off and then reboot as instructed below.
A: 1st reboot:
1- Turn off base station and all beltpacks.
2- Turn back on base station and wait for clear scan. Set to primary frequency if not already done so by clear scan.
3- Turn on one beltpack in booth and wait for “wireless” voice.
4- Turn beltpack to offense or defense (depending on who is on field).
5- Wave to field for one coach (offense or defense coach who is calling plays) to turn on one beltpack and wait for “wireless” voice. Turn beltpack to offense or defense as needed.
6- START COMMUNICATING (this should all take about 1 minute).
7- Add reaming coaches one at a time till “wireless” voice is heard and all coaches are communicating (may not beable to add all coaches in heavy WiFi environment).
B: If problem continues or comes back try re-booting to back up channel. Follow steps below.
1- Turn off base station and all beltpacks.
2- Turn on base station and wait for clear scan. Manually change frequency to back up frequency found during pre-game test.
7- Add reaming coaches one at a time till all coaches are communicating (may not be able to add all coaches in heavy WiFi environment)
Battery Care:
It is recommended that upon receipt of a Legacy System, all belt packs and base stations are fully charged, then let run down once (to confirm that you are getting appropriate use time), and fully charged again. This is going to take 2/3 days, so plan accordingly.
During the season: Best practice is to put everything on charge after the game. Then when you return to the office on Monday, you will have full charge and be ready for the next game. You do not need to let the batteries run down between charges.
Charging: Make sure beltpacks and base stations are turned off. A fully discharged beltpack will need to charge for at lease 6 - 8 hours. A fully discharged base station will need 10 -14 hours. Both may be left on charge indefinitely when in regular use during the season.
Always store the system in a clean, cool, dry location. The recommended temperature range is 32 - 77 F.
Long Term Storage: (not using the system for more than a month), the idea is to keep the batteries at about 30 - 50 % of capacity. This is the typical battery capacity left after 4 - 6 hours of full duplex use.
Do not store long term after being fully charged
Do not store in direct sunlight
Make sure you go into your last game with a full charge
After the last game, do not recharge the batteries
Every 6 months, charge for 3 hours, then take off charge, do not fully charge
Fully recharge before your first use
You can refer to the Legacy Operators Manuel for more information regarding the L-Ion Batteries used in the Legacy Coaching System.
Equipment Care:
Legacy System: Store in dry and cool location. Dry all parts before storing overnight!! Inspect headsets and beltpacks for damage and send in for repair Monday morning to receive back for Friday night game if needed.
Headsets: After use of your headset, wipe down the headset with a dry towel or cloth to ensure the headset is dry
prior to storage. Storage of a wet or damp headset will result in damage or degraded performance of your headset and
will void the manufacture's warranty as stated on the warranty card included with your headset.
